Imams Will Not Agree To Extend Equality In Muslim Countries.

Note: Cardinal Murphy O'Connor knows full well that Islamic leaders will never agree to allow Christians any remote bit of equality in muslim lands. His remarks are part of the pressure campaign against Islamic intolerance (integral to Islam) being waged by Pope Benedict.

AdvertisementMUSLIMS in the West must speak up for Christians denied their rights in Islamic countries, Britain's top Catholic said in Melbourne last night.

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor said it was essential that Muslims could worship freely in Melbourne and Sydney, and that Christians could worship freely in Riyadh or Kabul.

"This is a vital principle of sacred hospitality, and it is vital for the relationship between Christians and Muslims," the cardinal said.

"Where Christians are being denied their rights or are subject to sharia law, that is not a matter on which Muslims in Britain or in Australia should remain silent. Where religious rights of minorities are disrespected in the name of Islam, the face of Islam is tarnished elsewhere in the world."

Opening the Australian Catholic University's new Asia-Pacific Centre of Inter-religious Dialogue — along with Mehmet Ali Sengul, honorary president of the Australian Intercultural Society — the cardinal said the whole point of interfaith co-operation was to uphold religious freedom.

The challenge for each religion was to keep its exclusive claims while overcoming ignorance and learning respect.

"What is good is growth towards mutual understanding, but also a mutual witness to values we share — peace and justice — and that's not insignificant."

Comment: As part of the pressure campaign against the agenda of Islamism, the Australian parliament should pass a Resolution deploring the ingrained intolerance which is so manifest in Sunni Islam. Local muslims should not be allowed to continue to tell lies to themselves and other Australians about the reality of Islamic beliefs and actual practises in 2006.

Until the reality of actual Islam is accepted by local muslims, the hard work of Reform will never get going.
